Student Leadership

Students have numerous exciting Student Leadership opportunities with which to get involved in Sixth Form at Moulton School. Students continue to be a crucial part of the School Council, providing valuable input in whole school issues. They can also apply to be Senior Prefects and House Leaders which may lead to them being elected Head Boy or Head Girl.

Students in the Sixth Form provide invaluable support and guidance to pupils in the main school, for example being an English or Maths Mentor or even becoming Subject Ambassadors. There are also lots of Committees which they can be a part of, including: charity, social media and anti-bullying. All of these activities not only contribute to the success of Moulton School but they also provide students with an opportunity to enrich their curriculum with skills that can prepare them for life after Sixth Form.

The House system hinges on the leadership of the Sixth Form Students, allowing them to develop their creativity, communication and independence under the guidance of the Life Skills staff team.

School Musical

Every year Moulton School’s Music and Drama Departments direct and produce an annual whole school musical. There are always a variety of students involved across the school and the Sixth Form Students play a crucial role. The Sixth Form can get involved in a wide range of areas including: performing, directing, costume and set or the technical side of a performance such as lighting and sound. The school production has a crucial role in the life of the school and the Sixth Form Students are an important part of its success.

Music

Choir is open to all seasoned and aspiring vocalists and welcomes both male and female students. The choir rehearse each week and often collaborate with the Sixth Form band when performing at school functions, presentation evenings and at the annual Battle of the Bands competition. The Choir specialises in performing modern and popular music vocal compositions.

Jazz band is a swingin' jazz ensemble which is open to all players of intermediate or advanced standard. Please talk to Mr Martin (Music) if interested.

Orchestra is open to all musicians of all ages and ability. There is always a mixed programme of music and something to suit everyone.

Sixth Form Band specialising in transforming modern hits into Big Band covers, the band are regular guests at a wide range of Sixth Form and whole school events as well as competing in school wide music competitions. The band also appear at shows and country fairs around the county during the Summer term. The band are always on the lookout for new members, so no matter what instrument you play, the group will welcome you with open arms.

Debate Team

The Debate Team is ideal for students that are considering careers in fields such as Law or Politics or for students looking to enhance their University personal statement by evidencing their presentation, verbal reasoning and public speaking skills.

The Debate Team meets during the Autumn term, with debate topics ranging from the abolition of the monarchy to the privatisation of the National Health Service. The team take part in debates throughout the year against other schools in the county and in October the school competes in The English Speaking Union's National Debating Championship for Schools.

Duke of Edinburgh

Moulton School Sixth Form students have the opportunity to study for their bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh awards, a scheme that is highly valued by both Universities and Employers. The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is a national qualification that requires students to pass a programme of volunteer work, physical challenges, skills building, an expedition and for the gold award, a residential activity. Moulton School is now an accredited provider of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and you can organise and participate in all of the activities and challenges you need to complete in order to achieve each level of the award through the school.

Fundraising

The Fundraising Team is responsible for coordinating the Sixth Form's charitable activities, from selecting a partner charity for the academic year, to organising and hosting a range of fundraising events.

Recent successful events include a marathon football match, The Great Moulton Bake Off and a Summer Fete.

Over the past two years, the group have worked with Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK and the mental health charity MIND, raising over £5000 during this period through a range of events.

The group is popular with students looking for experience in Events Management, Business or Entrepreneurialism as well as those looking to add some community work to their CVs or UCAS statements or those who simply enjoy working on charitable projects.

Ghana Expedition

Each Spring a team of Moulton Sixth Form students embark on a trip to Ghana where they join forces with a company called Venture Force, who specialise in volunteering expeditions.

The aim of the trip is to contribute to ongoing community projects, with past expeditions helping to build facilities for the Eugemot orphanage in the Volta region of Ghana, such as accommodation blocks and medical facilities.

Students have the opportunity to stay with residents of the local community and learn more about life in rural Africa, as well as participating in visits that take in some breathtaking sights and allow you to get close to the indigenous wildlife.

In the past, some students have been so influenced by their experiences on the Ghana expedition that they have taken part in the trip in both Year 12 and Year 13 and some have even taken a gap year before University to continue their association with Venture Force. The local residents, particularly the children, are incredibly welcoming of their guests and most students find it incredibly difficult to say goodbye to their hosts.

Students that return from the expedition do so having been through both a memorable and life-affirming experience. This truly is the ultimate volunteering opportunity.
