School Meals

Healthy eating is at the top of the agenda for the catering staff at Moulton School. We are proud to provide our students with a selection of nutritious options that exceed the current standards by already being compliant with the new nutrition laws coming into effect in 2009. More information about healthy eating in schools is available on the children's food trust website.

Each day we offer a lunch meal and various hot pasta or egg noodle dishes with at least two vegetarian selections. Our side dishes always include two choices of fresh vegetables.

Students have the option of a hot meal from the daily menu or our selection of baguettes, sandwiches, salads, pasta pots, jacket potatoes, fruit and yoghurts.

Only cash is accepted in the Sixth Form Café. The main school uses the cashless system (ParentPay).

Q: What is a Cashless System?
A: A Cashless Catering System is a solution, which is purpose designed to meet the ever evolving needs and demands of the Catering Provision that is required by today’s Schools and Academies eliminating the need for students to carry cash with them around school for meals.

The Trust-e Cashless Solution supplied by Nationwide Retail Systems being implemented allows schools to be better able to provide their students with a faster, more efficient and more appealing meal service.

Q: What is Biometric?
A: Biometric is simply a method of identifying an individual person.  We will be using an algorithm based scan of student’s thumb or finger, which reads between 50 & 130 points. It is NOT a fingerprint in any way, shape or form and is of use only in the cashless system. It is not possible to reconstruct a fingerprint using the biometric code stored on the system.

Q: How does a Biometric System work?
A: The information of a student or staff member, who has been biometrically registered, is stored on a secure Biometric Controller within the school, which only our system provider, Nationwide Retail Systems Ltd, can access.  Once an account is credited the pupil or staff member places their finger/thumb on the Till, which looks up their account details and allows them to purchase items using only this method of identification. Student’s or staff member’s account balances can be checked in a similar way at the balance checking units that have been installed in the school by the student/staff member placing the finger/thumb on the machine. 

Q: Why register for the biometric system?
A: Being registered on the biometric systems means you are serviced more quickly during meal times and is the most secure method of identification as nothing needs to be carried or remembered and so there is no risk of loss or theft of identification which is associated with other means of identification such as cards or pin numbers.

Q: How does my child register on the Biometric System?
A: For your child(ren) to be registered on the biometric system you MUST complete and return the Biometric registration Opt in form. Registration days will take place leading up to the ‘Go Live’ day of the Cashless System.  At this time registration terminals will be placed in the school.  Your child(ren) will attend at a requested time and they will be required to place their finger/thumb on a Biometric sensor twice to obtain a matching template, which only takes a few seconds.  If you have not returned the Biometric registration Opt In form, your child will be presented with a 4 digit PIN Code which they will be responsible for remembering and keeping secure.

Q: What methods of payment can be used to credit an account?
A: Any amount can be credited to an account by way of any of the following methods.  Once an account has been credited the monies cannot be withdrawn and must be spent on the school meal/break services.

On-Line Payments

We have introduced On-Line Payments in partnership with ParentPay. Details of how to use this service along with details to allow you to activate an online payment account will be sent to you shortly. Once you have activated an account you will be able to make payments and monitor your account including want your child(ren) have purchased at www.parentpay.com. Further information about the ParentPay service can also be found at this address.

PayPoint at local stores - on request you can be issued with a PayPoint card, which can be used to top up your child’s account at your local PayPoint stores which will display the PayPoint logo below.

Payments via PayPoint will take up to 48 hours to be credited to the appropriate account.  You can find your local stores by visiting the website below.

Q: How quickly are payment made available to spend?
A: Online payments –  usually within 2 hours but under exceptional circumstances may take longer. ParentPay do recommend that you credit your childs account the evening before to ensure the balance is readily available the following day. 

Paypoint Card – up to 48 hours.

Q: How do I request a PayPoint Card and is there a charge for having one?

A: Paypoint cards can be requested in writing to school reception or by emailing:

There is a cost associated with issuing PayPoint cards; however when first requesting a card this is paid by Redcliffe the school meals service and is not passed on to you; however a charge may be applied for replacement of lost or stolen cards. In order to keep costs to the service down our preferred method of payment is on-line or via the cash deposit machines and would therefore ask that you only apply for PayPoint cards if needed.

Q: How can I check the credit on an account?
A: This can be done by your child(ren) placing their finger/thumb on to the balance checker machines located in the school or by entering a 4 digit PIN Code.  The current balance will then be displayed.   Alternatively, this can be accessed On-Line if you have activated an online payment account on ParentPay.

Q: Can I change the daily ‘Spend Limit’?
A: Yes – The daily ‘Spend Limit’ has a default of £10 but this may be changed by written request to the school.

Q: How do ‘free meal’ entitlements work?
A: All free meal entitlements will be entered on to the system prior to the ‘Live’ day.  The Cashless Catering System will, on a daily basis, automatically allocate the appropriate accounts with the free meal credits.  Students with Free Meal Entitlements remain anonymous at all times as all account types are accessed in the exact same manner regardless as to whether paid for or not.  Please note: Any monies not spent from the daily free meal allocation will not be carried over to the next day.

Q: Can anyone else use my child’s account?
A: Not if registered on the biometric system – Due to the extensive security on Biometric templates no-one will be able to access your child’s account. If your child has not been registered on the biometric system and is using a 4 digit PIN Code, it is their responsibility to ensure this is not disclosed.

Q: My child has an allergy, how will this be monitored
A: The cashless system allows for special diet information to be displayed to catering staff at the till.

Q: Can I request a printed report of my child’s meal intake?
A: Yes – The Cashless Catering System allows numerous reporting facilities, which includes Dietary Habits.  These may be requested by contacting the the school by email parent.pay@moultonschool.co.uk or by phone 01604 641600 or in writing to Moulton School (see address above).
